DISC Trust's kaupapa is to enhance the health and well-being of people who inject and use drugs by providing leading practice in harm reduction. We are Aotearoa’s leading harm reduction service delivering the broadest range of services in the country.

We are a peer-based organisation, committed to a health and human rights-based service approach for people who use drugs.



DISC Trust Services: Supporting Your Health & Wellbeing in Te Waipounamu South Island

If you need your drugs checked, clean equipment, or peace of mind about Hepatitis C, you’re in the right place. We offer free, confidential support and a range of health services across Te Waipounamu.

Drug Checking Services

We’re one of three licensed drug-checking providers in Aotearoa and the only one offering continuous services in the South Island. Our drug-checking services are available in:

  • Ōtepoti Dunedin
  • Ōtautahi Christchurch
  • With periodic services in Timaru and Waihopai Invercargill

In the past 15 months, we’ve checked 2,579 drug samples. If this is your first time using drug-checking, you’re not alone—50% of people we help are new to the service.

Needle Exchange Services

We operate seven needle exchanges across Te Waipounamu:

  • Whakatu Nelson
  • Ōtautahi Christchurch and New Brighton
  • Hakatere Ashburton
  • Timaru
  • Ōtepoti Dunedin
  • Waihopai Invercargill

We also have a mobile needle exchange and health service operating in Te Tai Poutini, making our services even more accessible.

Additionally, our national pharmacy needle exchange program includes 200 pharmacies across Aotearoa, with alternative providers, including Hauora Māori services.
